Features
Everything a library repository needs, already running
HykuUP is Hyku, the open source repository from the Samvera community, hosted and maintained by Notch8. Here is what comes with it.
Look and feel
Themes
Nine home page themes, including Heritage for cultural collections, Reference for research, and Screening Room for audio and video. Work pages and search results have their own layout options.
Your brand
Set colors, fonts, logo, banner, and favicon from the dashboard, and add custom CSS when you want finer control.
Your words
Edit the home page text, about page, help page, and featured works yourself, from the dashboard.
Deposit and description
Work types
Generic works, theses and dissertations, images, and open educational resources, each with its own deposit form.
Flexible metadata
Metadata profiles let each work type carry the fields it needs, including controlled vocabularies, without code changes.
Mediated deposit
Review every deposit before it is published, with notifications at each step and the option to ask a depositor for revisions.
Access controls
Public, institution-only, and private works, plus embargoes and leases on individual items.
Collections
Group works into collections and nested collections, each with its own banner, logo, and description.
Viewing and media
IIIF viewers
Images open in the Universal Viewer or Clover IIIF with deep zoom, and every work publishes a IIIF manifest other tools can use.
Audio and video
Uploaded audio and video are converted into formats that play in any browser, with the Ramp player available for time-based media.
PDFs and documents
PDFs display in the page with PDF.js. Multi-part objects can be modeled as a parent work with child works.
Importing and sharing
Bulk Import
Load records from CSV files, harvest them over OAI-PMH, or import BagIt and XML packages. Importers can be edited and re-run, and failed records can be exported, corrected, and uploaded again.
Bulk export
Export your records and files in bulk whenever you need them. Your content is never locked in.
OAI-PMH
A built-in OAI-PMH feed lets harvesters, aggregators, and discovery layers pick up your records.
Sign-on
Connect your campus single sign-on through SAML or OpenID Connect, or invite users and administrators by email.
Roles and permissions
Give people the access they need: administrators, depositors, reviewers, and collection managers, scoped by collection.
Statistics
See how many works, collections, and files your repository holds, and how they have grown over time, from the dashboard.
Run by Notch8
The parts you never have to think about
Hosting a repository well takes ongoing work: patching, upgrades, monitoring, backups, and, lately, fending off the automated scrapers that hammer every open collection. That work is part of every HykuUP plan.
- Every Hyku upgrade, including major versions, applied for you
- Security and dependency updates
- Monitoring around the clock, with an engineer paged when something breaks
- Backups
- Bot and scraper protection at the network edge
- A separate search index for each repository
- Your own hostname, such as repository.yourinstitution.edu
